We can help you with all your maintenance
needs for your car, truck or SUV and help you avoid later
costly repairs.
Note that many manuals advise that if you
drive your car, truck or SUV in "severe" conditions
you ought to service your vehicle more frequently. Driving
in stop-and-go traffic, frequent short trips, extreme hot
or cold conditions / temperatures, towing and hauling, driving
at prolonged high speeds, frequent start-ups and shut-downs
of the ignition, extensive idling, or driving in mountainous
terrain are among the conditions that most manuals will
include in the definition of "severe" conditions.
It pays you to carefully review your owner's manual and
to follow the detailed service recommendations that you
will find there. All of these conditions occur frequently
when driving in the San Jose area.
If you drive in severe conditions as described
in the owner's manual, one of the items that may require
servicing in your car, truck or SUV is your transmission.
For example, even though your transmission my have relatively
low mileage, if you use it in the city or subject it to
stop and go conditions these conditions cause extra wear
and tear on the transmission. Various associations and industry
experts counsel that it is not just the mileage that determines
the probable wear and tear on your transmission, making
that transmission more likely to need a transmission repair
or service, it is the number of times the transmission has
been run through its start-up and shift cycles that determines
probable wear.
With today's automatic transmissions, you would not be likely
to even notice or think about the shift cycles that your
transmission is going through as you drive and how different
conditions can affect the number of those cycles. It is
not just stop and go traffic that can cause this additional
wear and tear on your transmission, it is also driving in
very hot or cold temperatures, driving through mountainous
or steep grades or driving on slippery road surfaces. Although
these conditions may not seem abnormal or severe, depending
on frequency, any of them can cause your transmission to
need more frequent servicing or repair.
While yearly servicing of your transmission seems to be
an industry average for good maintenance, it may be advisable
to service your transmission even more frequently depending
upon the conditions to which you subject it, and for additional
protection, you may want to ask about installing an external
transmission cooler.
